LCS 5 KEEL LAYING October 27, 2011 at 3:30 pm Ladies and Gentlemen, Navy League members are invited to Marinette Marine for the keel laying of the Prospective USS Milwaukee (LCS 5) to be held October 27, 2011 at 3:30 pm. The ship’s sponsor will engrave her initials on a steel keel plate which will then be incorporated into the ship during construction. Keel laying is just the first step in the construction, christening and commissioning of the Milwaukee. Senator Kohl, Senator Johnson and Governor Walker are all scheduled to attend the ceremony. Please respond to me by Wednesday, October 19th if you are attending the ceremony. Marinette Marine requires advance notice of the names of all attendees. My suggestion is that all attendees travel independently to the Radisson Hotel & Conference Center in Green Bay on the morning of Oct 27th and then jointly travel by bus to and from Marinette Marine. A block of rooms has been reserved for Oct 27th at the Radisson Hotel & Conference Center at a cost of $77.00 per room. To obtain this modest rate, you must call the hotel directly at (920) 494-7300 by October 21st and mention “Navy League USS Milwaukee” when you make your reservation. The hotel is located across from Austin Straubel Airport at 2040 Airport Road, Green Bay, WI 54313. Bay Bus, LLC will then transport everyone to Marinette Marine and back to the hotel later that evening. The bus will depart from the Radisson Hotel at 1:30 pm and return following the ceremony. Look for the bus outside of the hotel. Cost of the bus is approximately $25 per person. Dan McElroy has kindly accepted the responsibility for coordinating the activities Oct 27th. I will send him a consolidated attendee list with email addresses after hearing from you. I’m attending the Navy League National Convention Oct 26-30, 2011so won’t be able to join you.
